Spurtles are of Scottish origin, originally used to stir porridge and the like. This version is completely hand-carved using traditional methods and is perfect for a variety of kitchen tasks, from making scrambled eggs, to sautéing vegetables, to stir fries. It’s shape enables you to get right into the corner of the pan and is at the same time wide enough to scrape pans with ease.

James' wooden utensils make a wonderful low, sweet sound against the pan, instead of the jarring clanking sound of metal on metal. It's so good for the nervous system. Calming and meditative for the person who loves to cook but doesn't like all the noise.Fellow St. John's alum, James Williams, made all of these glorious goodies!! Nesting Shaker boxes, a bird's-eye maple spurtle and right-handed spreading knife, a cherry left- handed spreading knife, and a surprise cherry mixing spatula, along with 3 tins of spoon butter. So excited!!! Thanks, James!! Everything is so beautiful!!!

This is me cooking my garden greens using my beautiful new maple sauté spatula, hand crafted by James Christopher Williams and found at www.james-williams.us. It is so pleasant to handle and to use. Both durable and aesthetically pleasing. It makes a wonderful low, sweet sound against the pan, instead of the jarring clanking sound of metal on metal. It's so good for the nervous system. Calming and meditative for the person who loves to cook but doesn't like all the noise.
